Threatening Boulder Being Brought Down South of Riggins


Anyone heading to northern Idaho via U.S. Highway 95 today should plan on the trip taking a bit more time.

Crews are tasked with the tricky job of bringing down a large boulder today that was exposed during a Dec. 2 rockslide along U.S. 95 south of Riggins. The Idaho Transportation Department says scaling along the cliff could continue for several days.

This morning's Lewiston Tribune reports that crews from Colorado-based Midwest Rockfall will bring down loose rocks in preparation for removing the larger "threatening rock." Once the boulder has been brought down, crews will continue to scale the slopes to loosen and bring down remaining loose rocks.
