Two Meridian Schools Cancel Friday Assemblies in Wake of Texts, Rumors

by

Following a series of threats and rumors flying around at least two Meridian High Schools—mostly via social media—school officials have decided to cancel some assemblies scheduled for Friday, Dec. 21, and have asked for an increased presence of law enforcement.

A handful of threat-related text messages began to snowball through the student population, leading to officials deciding to cancel Friday's assemblies at Centennial and Mountain View high schools. Meridian school officials also confirmed that Boise Police would be on site at Centennial this Friday (Centennial is located in Boise).

While school officials insisted that classes would be held per usual on Friday, they reminded students and parents that school resource officers would have an increased presence.
