Boise Police Give Santa Some Help With Kids Party, Queen for a Day Events

Women whose lives have been touched by crime will get something to smile about Wednesday, Dec. 12, when the Boise Police Department sponsors its fifth annual Queen for a Day event.

The women, many of who have suffered loss or hardship, will be treated to full makeovers with haircuts and manicures offered by students of the D Shaw School of Cosmetology. Many of the women receiving the makeovers have worked with the Boise Police Victim Witness Unit, testifying in some of the city's harshest criminal trials.

The annual event was the brainchild of students and staff at the cosmetology school.

Later today, approximately 30 Boise Police officers will play Santa's helpers when they host their fifth annual Bigs 'n Blue Holiday Party at the Boise State Student Union.

More than 100 kids have been invited to enjoy billiards, arcade games and bowling at the student center as the holiday party matches officers with kids who are on a waiting list for a permanent Big Brother or Big Sister.

The party gets under way at 4:30 p.m.
