UPDATE: One Man Dead in Police-Related Shooting in Meridian


UPDATE 4 p.m.

The Ada County Coroner identified a man shot and killed by Meridian Police Monday night as 38-year-old Eric Dilworth of Meridian.

Four Meridian Police officers shot and killed Dilworth after law enforcement responded to a call which they said escalated into a possible suicide attempt and the man running toward the police with what was described as "an edged weapon."

The officers involved in the incident were placed on administrative leave for at least 72 hours while the Boise Police Department serves as the lead agency in the investigation.

UPDATE 11 a.m.

Meridian Police have confirmed that four of its officers fired their weapons during an overnight standoff with an armed man outside an apartment near Fairview Avenue.

Meridian Police said the man, who previously was threatening suicide, ran toward officers while holding his weapon. The man, still unidentified, was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Officers involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave for at least 72 hours.


Officers from the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force and Boise Police Department have been called in to help investigate an officer-related shooting that left one man dead overnight.

Meridian Police said the unidentified man was shot at the Copper Canyon Apartments on Wilson Lane late Monday night. No officers were hurt in the shooting.

Police haven't yet revealed the nature of the call that led them to respond to the scene.
