Press: Transient Heads for the Hills After Traffic Chase, Shooting


North Idaho law enforcement is on the lookout for a transient who is consider armed and dangerous, after the suspect allegedly shot at police Saturday.

This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that a vehicle, driven by 57-year-old Mitchell Walck, also known as Mark Mackenzie, was stopped for a traffic violation, just south of Sprit Lake. But Walck drove off, leading a chase involving several police agencies, including law enforcement from Spirit Lake, Rathdrum and Post Falls.

Police said Walck ditched his vehicle off of Highway 53 and took off on foot and fired a handgun at police. No one was hurt. Walck was last seen running toward Rathdrum Mountain following a 12-hour search that included the use of a helicopter.
