Unemployment Rate Drops in Boise, Treasure Valley and Statewide


Idaho's jobless rate in October—7 percent—was the lowest in three and a half years.

The Idaho Department of Labor reprots that Idaho employers "maintained payrolls at a slightly higher clip" in October while 1,100 workers left the state labor force, the fifth straight month of decline. Since May, more than 7,000 workers have left the Idaho labor force.

The Idaho unemployment rate has dropped nearly two full percentage points since the postrecession high of 8.9 percent in July 2011.

The Treasure Valley, including the Boise, Meridian and Nampa corridor, registered a 6.7 percent unemployment rate in Octoer, down from 6.8 percent in September and 8.7 perecent a year ago.

The City of Boise had an even lower jobless rate in October: 6.3 percent.
