Report: DEQ Shuts Down McCall Office

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality has shuttered its office in McCall but insists that it will continue to monitor water quality at Payette Lake and Lake Cascade with weekly trips to Valley County from the department's Boise headquarters.

The McCall Star-News reports that the McCall office was shut down when its lone staffer resigned in August and Boise officials determined the work could be done from the Treasure Valley. A Valley County DEQ office had been open since the early 1990s.

The Star-News reports that the former McCall employee was responsible for overseeing water-quality monitoring and serving as a liaison to citizen oversight committees assigned to each lake.
