BYU-Idaho Professor Hacks Rexburg's Network ... On Purpose

Some eastern Idaho lawmakers were left slack-jawed when a local professor demonstrated how easy it was to hack into the City of Rexburg's security systems.

The Rexburg Standard Journal reports that Brigham Young University-Idaho professor Steven Rigby took no more than eight hours to hack his way into the network, easily manipulating security access. Rigby told lawmakers that he could delete or edit files, change passwords and download viruses into the system.

The Journal reports that Rexburg has approximately 200 individual computer stations, supported by 19 separate servers, but security on the system has weakened over time.
