SWAT Team Diffuses State Street Standoff

Law enforcement officials eventually coaxed a man into surrendering, but only after using tear gas at a home on State Street near Horsehoe Bend Road Sept. 28.

Police attempted to act on a felony warrant for grand theft when 38-year-old Mario Garcia-Rojas barricaded himself inside the home. SWAT team officers first sent a robot into the home to survey the scene before using tear gas.

Rojas is currently behind bars at the Ada County Jail, charged with probation violation and contempt of court.
