A Type 2 incident management team is turning over command today of the Karney Fire to the Idaho Department of Lands.
Now 95 percent contained, the six-day-old blaze is expected to be fully contained by Tuesday, Sept. 25. Two-hundred-sixty firefighting personnel have been assigned to the 440-acre fire.
The Boise County Sheriff's Department lifted the level 1 evacuation order this morning at 8 a.m. Road closures were also removed.
Meanwhile, fire vehicles remain in the area as crews continue to patrol and cool any hotspots. The Wilderness Ranch Fire Protection District resources are also patrolling the fire area for any heat.
On Sept. 18, 18-year-old volunteer firefighter Nathaniel Bartholomew was charged with felony arson in connection with the Karney Fire. Law enforcement theorized that Bartholomew started the fire to "get a relative's attention." Bartholomew's father is also a firefighter.
