Idaho's Household Income Drops While Most States Remain Unchanged

Idaho's median household income dropped again for the third straight year. The Idaho Department of Labor reported today that new census data estimates the 2011 median household income in the Gem State was $43,300.

The census reported that more than 16 percent of Idahoans were living below the poverty level in 2011, 1 percent more than the previous year.

Nationwide, the 2011 median household income dropped in fewer U.S. states compared to 2010. Eighteen states, including Idaho, dropped while one state—Vermont—saw an increase of 4 percent.

The biggest decline in median household income was a 6 percent drop in Nevada.

The U.S. median household income was $50,054 in 2011.
