Wayne Hammon, who gained credibility as a plain-spoken wonk in Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's cabinet, resigned Tuesday as administrator of the state Division of Financial Management. He'll leave his post on Friday, Sept. 28, to become the new executive director for the Idaho Associated General Contractors.
Otter named Dave Fulkerson, deputy administrator at the DFM, to serve as interim administrator during the search for Hammon's permanent replacement.
Hammon served as budget director since the early days of the Otter administration, in 2007. He's credited with instituting a zero-based budget process and was dubbed "decisive and cautious" by Otter.
"He will be greatly missed," said Otter. "But I wish him all the success in the world in this new endeavor.”
