Techies and Apple enthusiasts have spent all summer speculating as to the release date of the iPhone 5. Back in August, Techcrunch reported that a vacation blackout at Verizon between Sept. 21 and Sept. 30 was a good indication that Apple's newest gadget would hit the market somewhere in that span of time.
On Friday, Macrumors reported that FedEx is gearing up for a "surge volume" from Sept. 21-24, leading Techcruch to publish a follow-up report reinforcing its hunch that consumers will see a new iPhone Sept. 21.
Earlier this week, Apple sent out invitations to its Sept. 12 press conference in San Francisco.
The new iPhone is expected to have a bigger screen and be thinner than its iPhone 4 predecessor. Additional speculation about changes includes 4G LTE capability and a smaller dock.
