Celebrating its 100th anniversary, the Boise Central Trades and Labor Council sponsors its annual Labor Day picnic today in Boise's Municipal Park from noon to 4 p.m.
"This isn't a political event," said Council President Leland Heinbach. "But we do invite candidates because workers need to see and hear them firsthand so they can exercise their precious right to vote with as much information as possible."
The Council charges $4 for the meal, or three cans of food to help re-stock the union's food bank. Heinbach said donations are strong encouraged "to help union families who are struggling."
"This is our once-a-year chance to res-stock our food bank," he said. "We're counting on everyone to help us do it."
