Law enforcement updated earlier comments regarding the August 15 incident, attributing the gas leak to a Chevron operation. The source of the leak was a Chevron pipe carrying liquid fuel, approximately 1/4 of a mile away from the Williams Northwest Pipeline. Williams officials confirmed that the leak did not come from their pipeline.
Ontario State Police had initially estimated that the leak would cause delays on nearby Highway 201 for at least two hours. No evacuations were necessary.
Oregon State Police tell Citydesk that a "valve problem" along a
natural gas line running near State Highway 201 led to some tense moments this afternoon.
Law enforcement needed to steer traffic away from the area. Lt. Gregg Hastings of Oregon State Police told Citydesk that it was his understanding that gas leak was contained and traffic was allowed to flow again near milepost 24 in Malheur County by mid afternoon.
