Boise Library to Put Bookmobile Service Up on Blocks

Partly because of the growing popularity of its e-book system but mostly because of budget restraints, the Boise Public Library is gearing up to eliminate a service that grew its presence through much of the 20th century: the bookmobile.

Library administrators and their Board of Trustees are crafting talking points to explain the elimination of the service, which could occur as soon as this October. Board members are being briefed on how to explain the elimination of its bookmobile service, by pointing to the declination in usage over the past five years and budget reductions for Fiscal Year 2013.

Posters announcing the elimination of bookmobiles are expected to be made public in mid-August, about the same time the library will announce the change on its website.
