A former clerk has been ordered to return more than $69,000 to Kootenai County as part of her settlement for embezzling funds.
Sandra Martinson of Post Falls was sentenced to 90 days behind bars, but was released after 60 days for good behavior. Additionally, she was ordered to pay $1,000 per month for 49 months in restitution.
This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that an additional civil judgment, filed Aug. 1, is ordering Martinson to pay back $69,500 to Kootenai County. She'll pay $1,000 per month as soon as her restitution payments are complete.
Martinson also faces the possibility of paying federal and state taxes on the $140,000 that she stole from the county when she served as its chief deputy clerk.
