Officials with the City of Coeur d'Alene suspect that public funds are missing, triggering an investigation by the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department into possible embezzlement.
This morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports that officials in the north Idaho city won't name a suspect, but they have reason to believe that a 10-year employee of the city's Finance Department may be involved. The employee has been placed on administrative leave.
The Press reports that the investigation is focused on unauthorized money transfers from at least one City of Coeur d'Alene bank account to the employee's personal account. The irregularities were discovered last week while the employee was on vacation.
