Autopsy Ordered Following Death in Coeur d'Alene Ironman


An autopsy has been ordered in the wake of the death of a triathlete while competing in the Ironman Coeur d'Alene event on June 24.

The body of 44-year-old Sean Murphy of Seattle was pulled from Lake Coeur d'Alene during the swim portion of the Ironman event. He was maintained on life support but died a short time later at the Kootenia Medical Center.

"The cause of death is unknown at this time," Ironman spokesperson Jessica Weidensall told the Coeur d'Alene Press. "On behalf of all of us in the triathlon community, we mourn his death and send our condolences to his loved ones."
