Twin Falls May Repeal Texting-While-Driving Ban In Favor of State Ban

The Twin Falls City Council is expected to take up a repeal of its texting-while-driving ban tonight—not because it's ineffective, but because Idaho's statewide ban is set to become effective in less than two weeks.

This morning's Twin Falls Times-News reports that the statewide law, passed earlier this year by the Idaho Legislature and in effect on Sunday, July 1, is similar to the Twin Falls city ordinance. A letter from Twin Falls police to the City Council urges the repeal of the local ordinance to "provide clarity to officers who must enforce the ban."

If approved, the ordinance would stay in place until July 1.
