LeFavour: Simpson is 'Architect of Obstructionist Congress'

When congressional candidate Nicole LeFavour stood before a packed room of delegates Saturday at the Idaho Democratic State Convention, she said she hadn't "tried out her stump speech" in Boise yet.

"I've been spending a lot of time in small towns all across the [2nd Congressional] District," said LeFavour. "And so many people come up to me and say they recognize me and my work. I really didn't expect it, and that's something that [incumbent Republican Congressman] Mike Simpson or any amount of money can't get."

LeFavour took direct aim at Simpson and his ranking membership of the U.S. House Appropriations Committee.

"[Simpson] is part of a powerful, select group that did a sinister thing," said LeFavour. "Behind closed doors, he and a few others selected John Boehner to be the new speaker of the House, so he's one of the architects of an obstructionist Congress."

LeFavour said she was proud of collecting more than $100,000 in campaign donations as of June.

"And that's individual donations," she said. "Not [political action committee] money. But we've got hard work in front of us. I need $180,000 in the next couple of weeks."

LeFavour was certain that she would have to reach outside of her district for support.

"For those of you in the 1st District, I would be glad to take your money as well," she said.
