A good-sized fish kill was reported on the lower Clearwater River late Thursday.
This morning's Lewiston Tribune reports that several witnesses saw a large pod of dead fish, some of them apparently blown apart, floating near the north shore of the Clearwater at Lewiston.
"I stopped counting at about 130," Lewiston resident Craig Pettit told the Tribune. "I saw four or five that had their heads chewed off."
A spokesman from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game said there were no reports of explosions in the area, and wasn't aware of any work on the river that might cause trauma to the fish.
"It was very strange," Wayne Bartell of Asotin told the Tribune. "I've never seen anything like it."
