Saying allegations could not "be proven beyond a reasonable doubt," the Canyon County Prosecutor's Office decided not to file any criminal charges against Valley County Sheriff Patti Bolen, her chief deputy and a jail sergeant regarding the handling of an arson suspect last fall.
This morning's McCall Star News reports that Bolen said she was "relieved" and that "the findings are as we indicated, that we hadn't done anything wrong."
An investigation by McCall Police Chief Jerry Summer had recommended charges against Bolen for resisting and obstructing officers for failing to book a suspect in connection with an October arson at a Cascade school. The suspect, a juvenile, was subsequently arraigned and faces a pending trial.
Valley County Prosecutor Matt Wiliams told the Star News that he was disappointed with the findings from the independent investigation by the Canyon County prosecutor.
"I would have charged them months ago," Williams told the Star News. "I am a more aggressive prosecutor than a lot of other county prosecutors."
