Idaho 1st District Judge John Luster will hear arguments this Friday in the case of a north Idaho Republican leader trying to reveal the identities of three anonymous commenters on the Spokane Spokesman-Review's website.
Tina Jacobson, chair of the Kootenai County Republican Central Committee, filed suit in April in the wake of a few unkind remarks about her on the Spokesman-Review's Huckleberries blog. On Feb. 14, a commenter, going by the identify of "almostinnocentbystander," stated that there was $10,000 missing from the Republican Central Committee funds and that the missing funds were hidden on the person of Jacobson. Two more commenters, under the identities of "phaedrus" and "outofstater," supported the claim. But the GOP leader vehemently denounced the comments and asked that the identities of the three be made public.
The Spokesman-Review decided to push back, filing a motion to quash Jacobson's effort to reveal the identities. Judge Luster will consider the newpaper's motion Friday morning at the Kootenai County Courthouse in Coeur d'Alene.
