The City of Boise is testing out two different parking meter systems that opt for silicon over coin-operated mechanics.
With digital screens, solar panels, rechargeable battery packs and the option to pay with credit or debit cards, these "modern meters," as they're called, will take over management of 58 downtown spaces for three months while the city evaluates citizen feedback.
Multi-space meters will go into place in the BODO area, while the single-space variety will replace the heads of meters on Bannock Street between Capitol Boulevard and Eighth Street. In Wednesday's Boise Weekly, we catch up with city officials and citizens alike to gauge the soft opening's feedback.
