Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden has informed the St. Luke's Health System to hold off before finalizing its plans to acquire the Saltzer Medical Group. Wasden told officials at St. Luke's that his office, along with the Federal Trade Commission, had launched an investigation into recent acquisitions regarding Idaho's largest health care provider.
Since 2010, St. Luke's staff of physicians has grown approximately 50 percent. The St. Luke's system includes hospitals in Boise, Meridian, Idaho Falls, Ketchum, McCall and Jerome.
"[The Saltzer] acquisition, if consummated, directly affects our current antitrust review," wrote Wasden.
The Saltzer Medical Group, based in Nampa, also has offices in Boise, Caldwell and Meridian.
