A Caldwell attorney has emerged as District 10 Republican leaders' first choice to replace John McGee in the Idaho Senate. McGee resigned from the Senate on Feb. 22 in the shadow of sexual harassment allegations made by a Senate attache.
District 10 precinct bosses huddled Wednesday night to nominate three candidates to replace McGee. Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter will have the final say.
At the top of the list is Jim Rice, a Canyon County lawyer and chairman of the Caldwell district's Precinct 8. Following Rice was Brandon Hixon, Canyon County GOP presidential caucus chairman. The third choice was Ada County Highway District planner Jarom Wagoner. All three live in Caldwell.
Also vying for the top three spots were John Blaisdell, Donald Easteppe and Kent Marmon.
Otter will have 15 days to make his decision.
