Idaho lawmakers will consider a bill that would make it a crime for minors to use tanning beds.
"The use of tanning beds by minors in the state of Idaho and across the United States has led to a rising epidemic of skin cancer and other dermatology-related health issues," reads the measure's statement of purpose.
Lewiston Democrat Rep. John Rusche, a physician, is the legislation's sponsor. Rusche has worded the bill to make tanning a misdemeanor offense for people under the age of 18. A violation could carry a fine of up to $500. Subsequent violations within a year could result in a $1,000 fine.
