University of Idaho President Duane Nellis said today that he was finalizing details for an independent review panel in the wake of the murder-suicide of 22-year-old grad student Katy Benoit and former professor Ernesto Bustamante.
"We've identified a group of experts in the areas of higher education, student affairs, campus security and legal affairs who we believe will provide valuable insight and analysis," said Nellis. "The panel members will review and assess relevant safety and security policies and procedures as they relate to the safety of students, faculty and staff. Their findings and recommendation will be provided as quickly as possible, preferably within 30 to 60 days."
Meanwhile, a campus memorial service has been scheduled for next Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 7:30 p.m. in the U of I's administration building auditorium. According to a university statement, Benoit's life will be celebrated "through music, remarks and reminiscences."
