More than 1,500 men and women of the Idaho Army National Guard have begun the long journey home from the war in Iraq. Many of the soldiers are returning in waves in direct flights from Kuwait to Joint Base Lewis-McChord, outside of Seattle. After demobilizing, the soldiers will head home to their families.
But they're about to face a struggling economy and a transition to civilian life, which has proved to be more challenging than once thought. In this week's BW, we visit with soldiers, their superiors and caregivers who recognize that a homecoming can be a long road back.
