Study: Rudeness Spreads Like Virus

A new study in the Journal of Organizational Behavior says rude behavior should be addressed like a virus.

Research from Baylor University suggests that incivility in the office builds up stress that, in turn, is taken home by workers and spread to workers' families, who in turn, take the stress to their workplace.

"This research underlines the importance of stopping incivility before it starts so that the ripple effect of incivility does not impact the employee's family and potentially inflict further damage beyond the workplace," said Merideth Ferguson, assistant professor of management and entrepreneurship at Baylor and the study's author.

Workers in the study were employed full-time and had an employed partner.
