When the Boise City Council convenes this Tuesday, they'll officially take up a request to bump up city sewer rates by 2.5 percent. In this week's issue, BW chronicled new EPA standards, which will put much tighter restrictions on phosphorous levels and water temperatures coming from Boise's wastewater treatment facilities. As a result, the city Public Works Dept. needs approximately $5 million for immediate changes.
A 2.5-percent increase will raise the monthly sewer bill for the average single family dwelling by 57 cents per month, to $23.23. A series of 3 percent rate increases beginning in Fiscal Year 2013 is also anticipated.
