45,000 Verizon Workers On Strike

Tens of thousands of Verizon workers went on strike early today.

Following nearly two months of negotiations, talks broke down late Saturday night between Verizon, the Communication Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, representing 45,000 employees.

The workers who went on strike are technicians and customer support employees servicing Internet and phone lines to homes and businesses.

Verizon officials said they had trained tens of thousands of employees, from retirees to management, to fill the role of the workers who are now on strike.
