On national television this morning, Idaho Republican Rep. Raul Labrador weighed in on gridlocked budget talks.
"The American people asked us to change the way things are done here in Washington," said Labrador.
Labrador joined reporters Christiane Amanpour, Cokie Roberts and George Will at the famous table of ABC’s This Week this morning to consider the looming Aug. 2 deadline to raise the national debt ceiling.
"I want three things," said Labrador. "I want to make sure we cut sending. I want to make sure that we have a cap on the spending, and I want a balanced budget amendment."
Roberts challenged Labrador.
"I do think, politically, you're in a very risky place," she said. "The president is getting through to the American public when he says Republicans want to let people who have corporate jets not to have to pay taxes or people who make over a billion dollars not to have to pay taxes."
But in response, Labrador fired a salvo at the White House.
"This is the man who said he wanted to raise the debt ceiling without any budget cuts," said Labrador. "Now, he's saying a serious deficit hawk. I think that's a joke."
