Report: New Sun Valley Airport Could Cost $370 Million

The Idaho Mountain Express reports this morning that the Friedman Memorial Airport Authority is "entertaining the idea" of asking Blaine County residents to cough up $35.5 million in new property taxes to fund a new airport.

In a 30-page document for the Federal Aviation Administration, the board said the project could total $370 million, with more than half possibly coming in federal funds. But a tax increase would require a two-thirds majority approval in a county bond election. The Mountain Express reports that at least one board member, Blaine County Commissioner Larry Schoen would be opposed to any tax funding for the airport.
