Boiseans who saw the thick white plume of smoke rising from the corner of 20th and Jefferson streets today can rest easy. Not only was the fire department on hand to manage the fire, they were the ones who set the house ablaze in the first place.
The Boise Fire Department was using the house as a training exercise, something they only get the chance to do when someone donates a house to the fire department to be burned—that happens a few times a year tops.
Rather than put out the blaze, firemen on hand said today's goal was to effectively manage the collapse of the burning structure, after which it would be cleared by bulldozer.
