Organizers Looking to Overturn Education Overhaul Say They Have Half of Necessary Signatures

Organizers of the drive to put three education overhaul laws to a citizen vote say they are nearly halfway to their goal of collecting the necessary signatures to force a recall election in November 2012.

"We are just shy of 30,000 on each of three three petitions," said Mike Lanza, chairman of Idahoans for Responsible Education Reform.

The group needs almost 48,000 signatures by June 6, but organizers are looking for 80,000 on each petition as a "cushion."

The recall petitions must be submitted to county clerks for verification by June 1, before forwarding them to the Secretary of State's office by June 6.
