Robert Gates, Jakob Dylan Honored at Regional Commencements

Following an historic week, Secretary of Defense Robert Gates comes to the region tomorrow to speak to graduates at Washington State University. More than 2,350 students are expected to pick up diplomas at WSU this weekend. Gates is the only defense secretary in U.S. history to be asked to remain in that office by a newly elected president. President Obama is the eighth president Gates has served.

At Idaho State University's Holt Arena, a total of 2,234 graduates will receive degrees during Saturday's commencement ceremonies. Jakob Dylan, two-time Grammy Award winner and lead singer for The Wallflowers, will be awarded an honorary Doctor of Letters degree by the newly formed ISU College of Arts and Letters.

A string of graduation ceremonies are scheduled for next week with Boise State, the University of Idaho's Moscow campus, the College of Idaho and the College of Western Idaho all handing out diplomas.
