First Thursday traditionally means art, music and retail. Tonight, it also includes funding for Boise public schools and the search for a new downtown transit center location.
A group calling itself Friends of the Boise School District will hold the first of two public information meetings tonight concerning the district's supplemental levy vote set for Aug. 30. The 7 p.m. meeting, to be held at the Borah High School auditorium, will focus on a proposed levy of approximately $15 million, which could boost property taxes by $9.41 per month for every $100,000 of current taxable value. The exact amount of the levy will be determined at a July 11 Boise School Board meeting.
Also this evening, Valley Regional Transit is holding an open house at 510 Main St. to give the public the opportunity to weigh in on two possible sites for a new downtown bus and transit center. One possible location is on 12th Street adjacent to the Royal Plaza condominiums. A second possibility would put a transit center on 11th Street, adjacent to the Empire Building.
