UPDATE: Boise City Council Member Lauren McLean finished the Boston Marathon this afternoon in three hours, 58 minutes and one second. Sarah Barber, BW contributing writer (and all-around runner, cyclist and skier) finished the 26.2 mile course in three hours, 46 minutes and 56 seconds. This was the 115th running of the world's oldest annual marathon.
It's not unusual for Boise to be represented in the Boston Marathon. Today's running boasts 35 entrants who claim Boise as their hometown. It is unusual for Boise to have one of its officials in the world-famous race.
Among today's runners is Boise City Council Member Lauren McLean, better known today as entrant #16166.
Because of the huge field, the Boston Athletic Association changed the start so that the race goes off in three waves of about 9,000 runners apiece.
Just before being sworn in as Boise's newest council member, McLean told BW in a Citizen profile that she ran through Boise's streets most mornings.
"When I'm running with friends, it's social," said McLean. "When I run alone, I'm sorting things out."
We're presuming that McLean isn't sorting anything out today. She's running with 26,963 other runners.
