It will be Thursday night at the earliest before an ExxonMobil "test" mega-load is allowed to roll again on U.S. Highway 12. The oil producer wants to prove it can move more than 200 giant pieces of oil equipment across north central Idaho safely and efficiently. But in the first leg of a test run, the rig sliced a power line, knocking out electricity to approximately 1,300 Idaho residents near U.S. 12.
The Idaho Transportation Department ordered Exxon's mover, Mammoet, to investigate the incident and supply a full report. Until then, the mega-load remains parked at milepost 61, five miles west of Kamiah, Idaho.
