$175 Million Approved for Idaho Correction

This morning, the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee approved a $175 million spending plan to run the state's prison system.

The $7.8 million year-to-year increase is the largest budget bump approved this year by JFAC. A good part of the increase is earmarked to replace nearly $2 million in federal stimulus money that is scheduled to disappear in 2012.

Only Idaho's public education department and health and welfare propose larger budgets than the state's Department of Correction.
