Boise residents are getting their first glimpse of a proposed plan that would see off-leash dogs in several parks across the city. The proposal would allow owners to let their dogs run free in the early mornings or late evenings in Cypress, DeMeyer, Hillside, Manitou, Redwood, Sunset and Winstead parks.
Greg Treas and his dog Bentley are regular visitors to Morris Hill Park, one of the city’s only three off-leash areas.
“We have met a number of friends at this dog park,” Treas told Citydesk. “This park has built a community in our neighborhood, and we all chip in to take care of it.”
Boiseans can weigh in the proposal to expand the number of off-leash options at a series of meetings, each scheduled from 6-7 p.m. Three hearings are scheduled for this coming week: Tuesday, Feb. 22, at Garfield Elementary, Wednesday, Feb. 23, at the Morley Nelson Community Center and Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Ustick library branch. Meetings will continue into March at other locations. Park and Recreation is expected to craft a final proposal by April.
