Mega-load Stopped for a Third ... and Fourth Night

Anyone traveling U.S. Highway 12 knows that February is not the best time to drive across north central Idaho. The shortage of daylight compounded by a wintry forecast turns the long and winding road into a dangerous drive. Add the largest truckload in the history of the road and you've got an extra challenge.

The first of four controversial mega-loads remains parked alongside U.S. 12, just outside of Kooskia. ConocoPhillips officials say "an unfavorable forecast" is precluding the massive shipment from continuing its journey to Billings, Mont.

The official forecast from the National Weather Service called for snow Saturday night and a 90 percent chance of precipitation Sunday and a 100 percent chance Sunday night. Conoco officials told Citydesk that the earliest the big rig will move again will be Moday night, putting the first mega-load at least five days behind schedule.
