Another hearing is slated for Tuesday, Nov. 9, in the case of five soldiers charged in the murders of three civilians earlier this year in what has emerged as one of the most gruesome cases of the Afghan war.
Staff Sgt. Calvin Gibbs will be the subject of a military hearing at Joint Base Lewis-McChord on charges that include murder and trying to impede an investigation. The Article 32 hearing is the equivalent of a civilian grand jury proceeding.
Another of the five, Pfc. Andrew Holmes of Boise, also being held at Lewis-McChord, is awaiting a similar hearing. Holmes, Gibbs and three others from Bravo Company, Second Battalion, First Infantry Regiment, Fifth Brigade are accused of premeditated murder, possessing body parts and possessing photos of corpses.
