Statistics released today indicate an overall drop in reported crime in Boise: a 4.4 percent decrease in major crimes and a 6.8 percent decrease in "other" crimes. But the news was not all good.
"When we look at the past five years, we're seeing the decrease in crime is indeed a long-term trend," said Police Chief Mike Masterson.
For the first six months of 2010 in the major crimes category, there were decreases in reports of murder, aggravated assault, burglary, DUIs, fraud and motor vehicle theft.
However, there was a troubling increase—64 percent—in the number of reported rapes. There was also a jump in assault/battery, drug violations, kidnapping, theft from inside motor vehicles and trespassing.
