Boise has submitted a formal bid to host the 2011 USA Cycling National Championships.
Developer Mark Rivers, chair of the newly formed Boise Sports Council, flew to Colorado to make the pitch. Rivers told Citydesk that USA Cycling—headquartered in Colorado Springs—could make a decision on the 2011 event as early as the end of August.
USA Cycling is the governing body for all disciplines of competitive cycling in the United States, including road, track, mountain bike, BMX and cyclo-cross. The group sanctioned more than 2,600 events in 2009. The annual championships attract elite cyclists from across the nation.
The championships, traditionally held in September, could be held as early as May 2011.
