As early as next week, the first massive loads of oil equipment could be traveling on U.S. Highway 12.
A spokesman for the Idaho Department of Transportation told Citydesk that a major resurfacing job on the Arrow Bridge, east of Lewiston, should be partially completed by Wednesday, Aug. 18. At that time, the bridge will be reopened to traffic. That, in turn, means commercial traffic can resume on that stretch of U.S. 12, according to Mel Coulter with ITD.
Conoco could apply for a permit to transport their four loads as early as Friday, giving them five to begin the journey. That means, the first of the giant convoys could roll next Wednesday or Thursday.
