While Gov. C. L. "Butch" Otter has been actively campaigning—or raising money at least—for some six months, his Democratic challenger Kieth Allred has fully staffed his campaign just weeks after declaring his run.
Otter field director Brenda Maynard Walters tells citydesk that Otter will announce his run at an appropriate time, but that he has been fund raising for six months and will attend the Governor's Dinner and Governor's Ball this weekend. The Otter staff consists of Walters and Mandy Macomb, who is the chief fund raiser. Walters said a Web site launch is planned soon.
At the end of 2008, Otter had $105,000 in campaign funds in the bank.
Allred, who announced his surprise candidacy in December, has hired former U.S. Attorney for Idaho Betty Richardson to manage his campaign. Richardson also headed up the Democrats' candidate recruitment committee that nabbed Allred as the candidate.
Also on staff are Kassie Cerami, who helped with the Obama campaign in Idaho and Matt Compton who has worked with several Boise candidates including TJ Thomson, who will be sworn in as a city councilor tonight. Compton also did a stint with the Idaho Sportsmen's Caucus Advisory Council. Allred finance director is Boise Democratic activist Suzanne Gore.
And rounding out Allred's virtual office is press secretary Shea Andersen, who readers will recall was once the editor of Boise Weekly before taking up a short stint as editor of the Idaho Mountain Express in Ketchum.
