All Things D broke the news that Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has instituted the new anti-working remotely rules. The move will impact several hundred employees, some of whom could be forced to relocate if they don't want to get fired. Some staffers told All Things D that they were hired with the assumption that their hours and location would be more flexible.
All Things D later published a memo detailing the policy. "Yahoos," begins the note, written by Yahoo chief of human resources Jackie Reses. She explains that people are more productive when they work side-by-side. "Beginning in June, we’re asking all employees with work-from-home arrangements to work in Yahoo! offices," Reses writes.
The note concludes: "Being a Yahoo isn’t just about your day-to-day job, it is about the interactions and experiences that are only possible in our offices."
